Writers’ Club is once again meeting during the Winter term, same time and location. (Roger Rook 220 from Noon – 2). The club is still an open writing community and available for anyone who wants to be included, even if you are not attending classes at CCC.
Just wanted to let you know that there is a meeting tomorrow. The room will be unlocked and available at noon, but I unfortunately will not be able to be there. I have some things I have to take care of in the morning.
I wish you all good luck on your finals next week & hope everyone has an excellent winter break. See you all back again next term (Same time & place).
The English Department is hosting an open mic for Halloween tomorrow in the LAC (Roger Rook Hall – RR220) at Noon. Read your favorite Halloween short fiction or poem, or write one of your own to read to us. Even if you don’t want to read, come join in the fun and listen to others read. Snacks and beverages are provided (another good reason to come listen🙂 ).
The English Department’s student/staff readings are a great place to showcase your work and appreciate others. Come and enjoy the festivities.
This week we are going to Powell’s Books – downtown, instead of having our weekly meeting. Since some members have class until 11:50, and others are using Tri-Met to get there, we are having people who want to meet and ride Tri-Met together to be at the bus stop on the OC campus by 12:15pm. The Tri-Met schedule lists the 33 as leaving for Portland at 12:18pm (the earlier bus leaves at 11:48 which is before class ends).
Anyone wanting to get to Powell’s earlier than 1:30pm, will either need to leave from campus on an earlier bus, or have a different mode of transportation. I would like to have everyone going, to meet up at the coffee shop inside Powell’s at 1:45pm (in case Tri-Met is held up by construction on McLoughlin) to discuss what types/genes inspire us to write, enjoy reading and wish we had more books of, as well as take a look at the literary journals section (as a group) for ideas on how we want to publish our own book this year and what we want it to look like.
Here are the candidates that have submitted their names for your consideration for the President and Vice President positions.
Running for President:
Donny has been the Writers’ Club President for the last 2 years. He is currently in the final stretch of acquiring his AAOT at CCC, where his focus has been in English composition and writing. He also has worked on the school newspaper as associate copy editor, news editor, and web editor. He has been writing in a “for fun” capacity for over 25 years, but has only pursued an active writing career in the last couple of years. He recently re-married and says “She has breathed new life into my writing passion.”
Running for Vice President:
She was a Vice CEO of a security company for two years before she switched her career path. She is passionate about writing and animals. She is an active member of her church and has been involved in horse rescuing for the last 4 years. She is currently working on her prerequisites for Nursing, and Veterinary.
Voting polls don’t seem to be necessary at this juncture. I hope you will join me in welcoming your new officers.
I will be sending in the paperwork to ASG to solidify our standing as an official CCC club tomorrow. Thank you to every member that tested the polls on WordPress over the last couple of days. The amount of activity from members during that time makes me excited about what we will accomplish in the coming term.
